A crowd of well wishers gathered at Lancaster Station this afternoon, hoping to catch a glimpse of Puffernutterlou as she hurtled through the city on a Compass Railtour bound for Carlisle.

Puffernutterlou, the Nation's favourite lady trainspotter, didn't disappoint the assembled gathering as she waved enthusiastically from a carriage window.

The railtour, The Fathers Day Fellsman, should have had two 37's (37401 and 37670) as their motive power but were replaced with 67005 Queen's Messenger due to an unfortunate incident with one of these ancient relics.

This did not deter the crowds however who had come to see Lou, not some nasty old diesel locomotive.

Lancashire's poet Laureate was even comissioned to write a special piece of poetry to commemorate the event.

Who films the Duchess and the Thunderbirds?
And shares them on here just for you.
Who loves all things railways?
It's Puffernutterlou from Crewe!

Seriously Lou. It was lovely to see you today, albeit briefly! We all hope you had a really great day out and we're looking forward to seeing some of that on-board footage.

All the best. Frank & Sue. Otherwise known as Doodyman and Doodymissis.
