Very Tame Magpie

This Magpie appeared one day at our shop Secondwind Watersports. He is extremely tame, you can feed him by hand and he will sit on your shoulder. He is very mischievous and naughty!

A lot of people insist that birds are "dumb" and randomly reproduce sounds they have learned. I, on the other hand, know birds to be very intelligent creatures, the corvus and pica family (to which the magpie belongs) among the most intelligent, and very much aware of the associations sounds have to what meaning. Birds as they are have very complex social networks, and meaningful "dialogue" is much a part of that.

Thats fantastic footage, Ive never seen one so tame, they are a member of the Crow family so I know they are very intelligent , I have birds in my garden that will eat from my hands, ......no Magpies yet though, I can always hope !
