I didn't really get on with the original Tokai Mk2 pickups in my Made in Japan LS80. Here both pickups have been modified by changing the magnet.
In the neck pickup I put in a full length 2.5in polished Alnico 5. To me this now sounds warmer with improved bass end and slightly brighter top.
The bridge pickup now has a 2.5in Ceramic 8 magnet and as a result is more focused and fluid especially where soloing with distortion. On cleaner settings it feels more dynamic. It became a lot brighter too which is why I replaced the pickup cover.

  • @Mattukgtr Hey mate i was wondering if you know of a web page that i could buy the mk2 pickups, i cant seem to find them anywhere, i can only find 2nd hand ones which i dont mind but are already sold as they were very old posts.

    cheers

  • @MusicToMyEars36 As far as I know they are only available with Tokai 'Made in Japan' guitars. I think used is your only option other than buying a new Tokai MIJ guitar !

  • @MrBluesWeiser - not sure had to identify an unmarked magnet ! some kind of polished Alnico though - fairly strongly charged so might have been 5 - though the bridge pickup magnet was inconsistently charged
