Sarah Teather & Floella Benjamin: Passenger Tax

Sarah Teather speaking this morning before submitting her petition to HM Treasury about the Air Passenger Duty. Passengers flying to the Caribbean will be hit with an unfair tax that could see a families of four paying over £600 on top of their actual air fare. The proposed system will see passengers for Caribbean countries charged disproportionately more then passengers to the west coast of America, even though the distance is longer.

Friends of the Earth, the LibDems and the Conservative Party all agree that a "per-plane" tax encouraging airlines to carry full passenger loads on every flight makes sense. APD is just another stealth tax, and affects the ordinary holidaymaker. But not Simon Cowell or Roman Abramovich!
