Well I would even take it a step further (as I have seen the full film twice now) and say that this is part of a bigger picture. I wasn't crazy about the final message in the film as they want government regulation - which again takes the responsibility away from the parents and the family unit and into the government. We don't need MORE laws. We need a natural lifestyle and go back to basics. LESS interference in parental authority and upbringing. Just my thoughts.

@AgeOfScience - Well, I'm talking about protecting children and educating them to be critical thinkers. to do that you need to limit TV. I totally agree that we need to cut off the gov support and tax-payer money to big corps, corporate welfare, fascism - whatever you want to call it. That's why I'm voting for Ron Paul. It's a first step in the right direction.

@MiranUT My solution is that we need a restructuring of our whole society to the point that we no longer need corporations at all, much less advertising. I dont believe in legislating solutions, rather I support development of a system where legislation is obsolete.
Sure, turning off the TV might help the individual or family avoid some corporate coercion - thats fine. My only problem is when people offer that as _the_ solution & that is _really that simple_. There's a lot more going on.

@MiranUT I go months at a time not watching TV. I just got cable hooked up, last week, for the first time in over a year and I watch on average 2-3 hours of TV/week. I just dont treat my lack of or minimal TV watching as a viable simple solution to a much more complicated problem.
-
Age of Science - Seriously, try NOT watching TV for one month - if you can - and you WILL see you spending habits change. I guarantee it.
-
@AgeOfScience - And what's your solution? Let the government be the parent? Regulations don't make people smarter. As long as these companies can pay the fines, they will break the rules - just like the bankers who had to pay a $2-million penalty on a transaction that made them a $2 billion profit.
My friend, education starts with the parents. I advise parents to turn off the TV. Not owning one does not in any way isolate you in a bubble. I have plenty of other media, with MUCH less adverts.
-
@MiranUT Fair enough, but simply turning off the TV does not make the unethical and immoral corporate advertising juggernaut go away - its a bandage solution at best and full blown living-in-a-bubble at worst - it does nothing to actually solve the problem of why we even have a society where children are made the targets of relentless subversive advertising - thats the real issue.
-
God spare the children from this toxic shit they want to inject in their mind

@AgeOfScience - I'm not saying TV's evil, only that it's the main problem. We still watch DVDs of TV shows like Cosmos (no ads). A computer is much easier to control & avoid ads. There are kids sites without ads/minimal ads. Internet radio I lister to has 1 ad per hour - usually a computer related company. My kid sees advertising with half-naked women on the train, but a still shot of a magazine cover is NOTHING compared to the 18-min./hour of song and dance brainwashing you get from ads on TV.

@chrisdryer - Yes, I agree. The problem is: A 6 year old girl, or even older, does NOT understand what she is projecting to older boys/men. The interactions they will have with other people will be different. Kids are being robbed of their childhood. The younger age for starting sex is one example. I'm not saying sex is bad, but once you open that door, you can't close it ever again.

"Looking like adults" and "being adults" are two totally different things... our society does promote this irresponsible attitude... society needs morays and blue laws... and those are being taken away by pop culture... eroded away. don't blame the kids, but they are still responsible to some degree.
I can't thank you enough for shraring this documentary with us. Best one I've so far.
As a grandmother of 4 children, I am so grateful.
Blessings!
