The RAII-a-400 "Double-Wing" configured robot extracts and handles LCD display backlight screens molded in a Niigata injection molding machine. "DW"-style Yushin robots feature two independent robot units on one beam and excel in applications like this one, where there are many parts to handle. First, Unit 1 removes a backlight screen and places it on the warm side of a cooling platform, then proceeds to shuffle another screen onto an open station on the platform's cool side, or else onto its hand-off station, before returning to wait position above the mold. Unit 2 uses its dual main arms to pick, hold, and place the sufficiently cooled screens between the hand-off station, a precision gate-cut station, and the product conveyor. Ordinarily, this application would require two separate robots, but a single DW robot does the job while being considerably more compact and inexpensive.
