President's Son Yoshitha Rajapaksa's Passing Out Parade

President Mahinda Rajapaksa was the Chief Guest at the Passing Out Parade of the Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth in Devon. The British government said this was the first time a foreign head of state graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at a passing out parade of the Royal Navy.
The President arrived in Britain following his successful tour of Japan on an invitation of the Commander of the British Navy Admiral Jonathan Band. It was a special honour to Sri Lanka and a special occasion to the President and the First Lady Shiranthi Rajapakse. The Royal Navy Commander and other Naval Officers warmly welcomed the President and the First Lady on their arrival at the Royal Naval College in Devon. The Britannia Royal Naval College, set up in 1863 with the aim of training naval personnel in facing tough challenges confronting the naval forces, is among foremost training institutes of its kind in the world. The British as well as foreign naval officers receive training at the institute. Yoshita Rajapakse, the second son of the President, participated in the passing out parade following an year's training at the Naval College. The President shared pleasantries with the naval officers and their relatives. Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda also participated.
