I felt bad, but not that bad :-S. I made it to the top. My advice is to take Diamox, exercise hard before attempting the mountain, dress well, eat and drink water a lot on the days climbing.
Same experience helping a man down on Thorung La. He was coherent, capable of joking, cotton mouthed, no visual abnormailty, or presence of hape or hace key symptoms. He gave me a hug when I met him again in Pokara. :)
...the worst headache of my life, nausea, and a very distinct feeling of "malaise" which was scary uncomfortable! I that I should not wait for it to go away, but do the only thing: get down fast, before it gets serious!
Some people think it's because you're are struggling with the lack oxygen, but it's the pressure change itself that does it, and good cardio shape does not protect you! I was a trained runner, and in very good shape!
@stonehands20 I realise this was 2 years ago but I felt I had to point out the stupidity here.
Altitude sickness takes 12 hours to set in, and makes you lose control of your limbs. Herp a derpa-derp.

Anyone who tried it and know how bad just mild AS makes you feel!
Many normal people in good shape will get it, if they - without acclimatizing -, goes to approx. 2500 meters (8000 feet).
I got mild AS (compared to this guy who can barely walk), when driving to 3000 m (9850 feet), and taking a lift to 3850 m (12630 feet).
