21.07.05. Failed London Bombers Verdict

21/7 bomber plotters must serve at least 40 years in prison
The July 21 bombers were jailed for at least 40 years each for what the judge described as part of an Al Qaeda-inspired plot to commit mass murder.

Mr Justice Fulford QC said they would have killed at least 50 and injured hundreds had their attacks on Tube trains and a bus in London succeeded.

He added that the failed suicide mission was linked directly to the July 7 bombers who had brought murder to the capital a fortnight earlier in 2005.

Both gangs had been inspired and coordinated by Osama Bin Laden's terror network in 'parallel but separate' teams.

Details of the attack on Barot were subject to a news blackout

An al-Qaeda plotter who planned to kill thousands of people in the UK and US in "dirty bombings" has been badly injured in an attack by fellow prison inmates.

Dhiren Barot, 35, from Kingsbury in north-west London, had been serving life at HMP Frankland near Durham.

He spent five days in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary after the assault.
