My grandfather passed away 3 years ago today ( I wrote about it then here-- http://popomohaha.livejournal.com/86873.html ). This was taped on his birthday in 2004. He was 92: quite hard of hearing, already experiencing a bit of dimentia. Still, something true gets through. We were having cigars with him on his patio.

I answered his question as simply as I thought I could: "a bunch of Japanese". I recall wishing I hadn't done so, but am now glad I did, for it must have triggered a memory of World War II. Anyway, I am glad to have this video, since it captures a charming sentiment (I think).
