A step by step guide with pictures on how to carve a pumpkin. It's pretty simple, but it's helpful for beginners. here are the instructions from the video:

Materials:
-A pumpkin (larger the better)
-Sawing knife (thin works best)
-pins, nails, or something with a sharp end
-metal spoon or plastic scoop
-black sharpie, or any permanent marker
-a candle, or a light of some kind

1. Find a desired design (pick one that fits your carving abilities)
2. Use an editing program to color in the parts that need to be carved out, and remove the background if you can (make sure the printed design fits on your pumpkin with extra space!)
3. Tape the printed design onto the flattest part of the pumpkin and cut off the top (make sure the hole is wide enough for your hand to scoop out the insides. Cut at an angle so later the top does not fall in).
4. Scoop out the insides of the pumpkin; first with your hands, then with the metal spoon or a plastic scooper. Be careful not to scrape off the pumpkin, just the goop.
5. Use the nail or sharp point to carefully punch in the outline so the design is transferred onto the pumpkin. Your holes should just punctute the pumpkin, leaving a visible mark, and should and should be only a millimeter or so away from each other.
6. Use the marker to carefully trace the outline (DO NOT trace the holes, just outside of them).
(Made a mistake, in the video it says Step 6 but really should be step 6. I will call it 6.5 here to make it easy.)
6.5. Carefully and slowly carve out the SMALLEST pieces first, following the holes, then move onto the bigger pieces. Clean out the holes to make them clearer.
7. Light a candle (or use a flashlight) and put it in the pumpkin. Close the lid, turn off the lights and enjoy!

Additional Tips:
-To help preserve your pumpkin after carving it, you can rub petrolium jelly (Vaseline) on the exposed parts to minimize water loss. Please note that petroleum jelly is flammable when heated up to a high temperature (a lit candle should not cause any problems, just a disclaimer).
-A white candle will illuminate your pumpkin the best. Leaving a candle inside your pumpkin in the house unsupervised is strongly discouraged.
-For the love of God, if you are an amateur carver please go with a simple design!
