I was wondering why their different colors until I read the comments

I once raised 2 of those colored chickens into hens. They don't die from the dye.

@tallladyjay True. My mother bought us chicks one year for Easter over 30 years ago. It didn't end well for the chicks. I still feel bad for them.

@cookeidough It's not just that they are being dyed, it is the fact that they are being sold as toys like stuffed animals, novalty items, for children to play with at Easter. People buy them on impulse for their chiildren. They know nothing about raising chickens and probably don't have facilities to raise them. These are dellicate babies and most will die within a few weeks. Handling them over and over, as kids wiil, not providing proper warmth and venitilation and living conditions is cruel.

They are so cute, but I think using dye or food color on baby anything might be against the law. My parents used to buy these at Easter back in the 1950's, until it was outlawed back then.
