PART 2 of 2! See part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuvRhdaOiDc

In 2005, the building of the Oxford animal lab (in England - Oxford uni) brought about a battle between the animal rights activits who wanted to shut the place down vs the scientists who do medical research with animals other than humans.

Scientists in the area fear to speak about their research because of violent acts from a minority of animal rights activists. Mel Broughton, leader of Speak dedicates all his time to animal rights and vows to shut that lab down. But Laurie Pycroft, the founder of a movement called Pro-Test stands up to Speak, campaigning for the medical experimentation. He was sick of the anti vivisectionists dominating the debate in the public forum.

The director of this documentary aims to hear out both sides of the debate, in order to decide if the experiments are effective and ethical.

Note: This is not completely neutral, and unfortunately makes animal rights activists look a little bad, by showing some of the bad ones. I think the docco is great though, because I agree. It shows us what goes in inside the lab, quiet fair and square. It doesn't make it look good, or bad. I'm glad to have some more videos showing that the propaganda PETA and the ALF put out is false and misleading. But experimentation isn't exactly a family fun park either.

This isn't my video (obviously, but I thought I'd point it out) and it was aired on the BBC last year, I believe. It's now considered public domain, meaning there is no copyright, and I am free to distribute it on youtube like I'm doing. Don't believe me? Visit: http://www.archive.org/details/MonkeysRatsandMe for the source, and creative commons license. No rights reserved ftw.

Feel free to discuss, remembering this isn't my video, though I share many of the views presented in the video. I also use animals for experiments as a student, and it's quiet possible I will use them in the future as a neuroscientist. If I pass uni and don't get attacked by animal rights extremists!

  • I have a mental disorder, and I don't see what that has anything to do with this video, and I don't see why you need to point it out in that way. Calling us nutters just adds to the stigma and stops people seeking help.

and you, 'betterflybabe666', perhaps you should do some education on urself as there is something clearly wrong with your stigma!!

  • my reply didnt post so im writing it again. YOU enjoy the life of dissecting, mutilating abusing and hurting animals. there is clearly something wrong with you! and dont give me the whole 'its for our own good' speach because there is other proven ways to experiment WITHOUT the use of animals. i have no respect for you or your type, but i have the upmost respect for the scientists researching without the use of animals because they are highly intelligent and you arent.

  • Lol, what the crap, I'm not in the video at all, I didn't make it, I don't even live in England(where this video takes place), so how on earth do you know what I'm doing. I'm a neuroscience student and I work as a check out chick for a living, thanks!

All I did was upload this video (creative commons, so I can) to promote some discussion on the issue not so people throw personal attacks my way... well, welcome to the internets.

  • @vindaloonarnar Well he's not a fundamentalist he's more into the moral truth rather than animal rights initially but the moral truth often leads to the realization that humans exploitation of animals in the majority of cases is not justifiable but is some it is justifiable and it does seem that 100s of monkeys for 1000s of humans is justifiable if its the only option, I do believe humans and other animals matter equally but 100 for 1000 is not equal, but of course its open to debate

  • I was shocked to hear Peter Singer agree with Tipu Aziz in such a way, that seemingly went against everything he had stated in earlier writings.

  • hello every one my name is nicole gardner sean gardner big sister sean has came a long way since oxford he can talk more clearly sit my right drive his wheel chair and feed himself he is now 18 and just left school and now goin into college he is very smart and has a girlfriend and very happy i would hate to think wat he would b like if he didnt go through the oparation that saves his life and that al to do wif animal testin i dont agree with it been used for comestics

  • i think that in some cases it can be possible to help

people that really need it , like the boy , but the animals

cant be used to other thinks such as experiments with

animals to develop comestics or to make clothes etc.

  • sick fucking bastards hope they sleep with one eye open. they should test stuff on the worst criminals. far more accurate than a baby rabbitt.
