Dude, they're not american ninjas (or so i think...), the n64 (and probably the ps2 version) states that they are rivals with Scorpion's japanese clan. Which would either mean that they're both apparantly meant to be japanese, or the Lin Kuei just happens to be a american organisation fighting japanese people. I dunno

John Tobias talks about this in the making of MKM:Sub-Zero you can find it uploaded under this account, basicly Scorpions clan is Japanese and the Lin Kuei are based on a rare clan of Chinese Ninja, but they don't like being called Ninjas but of course Lin Kuei.
