Video of the tornado damage in Smithville MS, filmed on 04/29

This is by no means intended to make light of the tragedy that the people of Smithville and the other affected regions across the area are suffering. This is my friend and I taking amateur footage over Smithville as an attempt to make others fully understand the extent of damage Smithville suffered.

Notice in the very beginning and the very end that you can see the exact path that the tornado took. It literally touched down as Smithville began, and traveled a couple miles into the woods after the town before picking up.

  • Nice video, however you mention that the tornado touched down right at Smithville. It actually touched down near Houston, MS and traveled E across Hwy 45-Alt towards Smithville. It lifted a few miles into Alabama. Just thought I'd mention the extent of the path. You can actually drive along 45-Alt and see to your left and right the trees stripped of leaves, limbs, and even bark on many. No words can describe the destruction.

  • @agmorlan2 it would have had to pick up and re-touchdown... not doubting that it was a very long-lasting, but as far as being on the ground you can kinda see at 2:32 what we say in the sky, that on this side of the river there was no damage until just before smithville. and we looked on the other side of the river the direction it came from and saw no immediate damage trails

  • This tornado was rated an EF-5, the first since the Parkersburg, Iowa tornado on May 25, 2008. God bless the people of the South.

  • i don't want to spark a big argument, just for clarifaction purposes. this tornado that touched down in smithville wasn't the same one that hit houston...it was all the same storm system (my lord it stretched from MS to GA) but not all the same tornadoes. I am actually in houston, MS as i write this. the damage here isn't nearly as severe as smithville's (i have personally seen both with my eyes) but to say its the same tornado, you'd have to say the same one hit every town, same system tho..
