I was born in Atlanta, Georgia but I was mostly raised in Tuskegee, Alabama. I will be serving a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Leeds,England mission. I love basketball, ping-pong, but more than anything I love Jesus Christ.

Two missionaries from the Mormon church knocked on my door when I was 14. I was extremely skeptical about what they taught me and what they beleived until one missionary asked me to pray and ask God if what they were teaching me was true. I prayed and The Spirit of God confirmed to me that what the missionaries were teaching me was indeed true. I have recieved many added blessings through striving to live the principles of the gospel which the missionaries taught me when I was 14, and that is why I am Mormon.

The preisthood is power delegated to man from God. It is the power to act in God's name for the benefit of His children. It is the power to perform miracles. To put it simply it is the power to serve your fellow man and in some cases beyond your own capacity. In order to use the preisthood your desires and actions must be completely in line with that of God's. The priesthood was with held from Blacks before 1978 and this has caused much controversy over the years. My opinion as a Black Mormon emphasis on opinion is I really don't know why God with held it from blacks. In the Book of Mormon there is a scripture that says "Believe in God believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend." Mosiah 4:9 This scripture means that man cannot comprehend all things. We don't have the understanding of God. All we can do is trust him. I know that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true, not because someone convinced me or forced me but because I have inquired of God myself. Whatever else the Lord needs me to beleive after that is fine with me becuase He certainly knows much more than I do.

One thing that the Savior really stressed was to Love your fellow man. This is a philosophy that I certainly haven't perfected. I strongly beleive however, that although I may not perfect it in this life the Savior definitely wants me to keep striving after it. I have been the recipient of much love throughout my life and through the teachings of the Mormon Church I have grown both in my capacity and understanding of how to love my fellow man. My mom is a perfect example of love for your fellow man. Often throughout my life no matter where we lived we would frequently get visitors who merely wanted to vent or talk about their problems to my mom, and she was never one to withhold a listening ear. I now plan on serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I hope I can embody the Christ-like love my mother had.

I attend many programs within the church which help to strengthen members. I express my faith through service within the community which is imperative within the Mormon religion.

  • Thank you for your wonderful testimony and for your story! I too have discovered the truth for myself! You are an example of the believers and you hold your head high. Enjoy your mission and keep your testimony strong!

  • @ShowChoirShay thank you for your comment, I loved listening to Paris' testimony of our Saviour. I think we all come to the truth but each one of us come via many different paths the truth is the same truth that of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the fact that his sacrifice makes it possible that we might all return to live with our Heavenly Father, after all we are all, each and every one of us, children of God.

  • Mormons get to go to hell for hating black people and writing it into their religion..ha ha ha.

  • @newbiltl you clearly know nothing about our faith, I suggest you educate yourself completely before making such asinine comments as that. When the church was first organized the man who help bring the gospel of Jesus Christ back to the earth again, named Joseph Smith, baptized former black slaves and ordained them to the holy Priesthood and as they immigrated west they were attacked and persecuted in Missouri, one major reason being they did not promote slavery.

  • @radroofer Wow it never ceases to amaze me the new stories people will make up to justify their attacks on someone else's religious faith. A drunk guy that stumbled out of a bar in the 1800s...seriously!?

Explain then why because of his strict Biblical up-bringing by his Christian family that he refused any alcohol even as an anesthetic for pain while the doctor cut into his leg and removed a piece of bone in a most innovative surgery with the hope that he would be able to walk again?

  • "but more than anything I love Jesus Christ."

    definitely a Mormon Christian

  • Paris I really enjoyed listening to your testimony. I loved how you talked bout you wasnt sure and the missonaries told you to pray about it. When the missonaries was visiting me they would ask me to pray to see if it was true, and I did, however I didnt get the answer at that moment, they was coming over and i was thinking man they are gonna ask and ill have to say i dont know still, well when they asked i was overcome with the spirit and knew right then that The book of Mormon is true.

  • cool story bro.

  • I wonder why Catholic videos dont get so much horrible feedback.

Because LDS people are awesome, that's why.

And I guess the rest of us just can't take it. XD

You, Paris, are a fabulous person. I love your religion.

  • "And I DOMINATE ping pong. And I'm a Mormon."

that just made my day, right there.

    Beautiful. :)

  • Champion!!!!!!!

  • @Diesel680 I also am a "Black Mormon" and I don't know enough about the comment history to know whether anything has been deleted or not but "White Mormons" are not idiots. Also we are not fooling ourselves. All I can tell you is to look into for yourself in person. Not on the internet or in books but in person. Find a church near you, read the Book of Mormon, and meet other Mormons. The Book of Mormon is a testimony of Christ and through the testimonies of other members you can find the truth.

  • Guys, why do you guys always debate and argue over religion. Its called RELIGION for a reason. We all believe different things. We cant expect someone to believe the things we believe just because we think they are right. If you enforce ur faith to someone else, thats just dogmatic and absurd.

  • @sffilk Everyone makes mistakes, for heavens sake. And the church didn't tell those people to do those things!

Of course is was a horrid thing to do, but people do terrible things like that. Governments have and also "mainstream" christianity has too. I'm not saying it's right. But I just want to say that that can't be a reason to hate the whole group just because the fault of a few group members. I just wanted to say your reasoning is pretty faulty.
