@monsterhead13 Fuck what?! No such thing as viking metal?! What do you think Bathory created then? They came before ANY of these bands and created a genre of music called "Viking Metal" with their 1990 album "Hammerheart". Without bathory none of these bands would probably exist; Einherjer, Moonsorrow, Tyr, Turisas, Ensiferum you name it. Bathory created "Viking Metal" which has chanting and sorrowfull music etc.

Actually, you're right. I was wrong to say that far, and I apologize for that.

@RobGzz First time I ever heard folk metal I searched Viking metal out of utter boredom. Imagine my surprise that I found out its a real thing. And I personally feel it is the correct term for this music. Folk metal is a general term; celtic metal, Viking Metal, Mesopotamian Metal, is just more specific. Pagan metal has the same issue. There's a huge difference between different groups of pagans.

This song... unforgettable! Been listening to it for ages, it never lets me down!

@monsterhead13 If people name it Viking Metal, then sure enough, It's Viking Metal. You can consider Viking Metal a type of Folk/Pagan Metal if it makes you happy. Calling it Viking is specific and far easier than saying, "It's folk metal with biking themes." There really is no need to be that technical.

actually there is such a thing as viking metal as a distinct musical subgenre, though einherjer is certainly not it.. it is characterized by melodic similarity to 19th century ballads, varying and woven/layered refrains (resulting in very long songs), black metal-like guitar distortion, clean vocals, chant-like vocal harmonies, etc.. Best examples are Bathory and Falkenbach. RIP QUORTHON :)

@monsterhead13 who cares what its called, can't you enjoy the music without being a little bitch?

A lot of Slavs are also descended from vikings, if you look at the history of the Kievian Rus', like you said, it was founded by vikings which would mean that Russians and Ukrainians have viking blood.
-
Perhaps a few, but not most, I would wager that most russians, ukrainians, byelorussians and ruthenians, are more or less, descended from the ancient slavs, which are akin to modern poles, czechs, silesians, kashubians... etc.

@monsterhead13
I know, I agree with you, but people search in youtube for Viking Metal... so Einherjer can be found sooner
And also its like more focused to certain lyrical theme or music inside the Pagan metal
but yeah I like to say its Pagan Melodic Metal ... Blackish or something
