  • You were very lucky to get this spot!!

  • @Tommiclio i never mentioned anything about the number of wheels, i mention the angle that they are at the same as the 767

  • @pilotanthony Not striclty true actually.

Just because an aircraft has many wheels does not ensure a smooth touch down.

Aside the fact the pilot is the main factor to a smooth touchdown.

Its about weight distribution from the center of gravity relative to the aircraft.

The airbus has many wheels ... true... but they have a similar outlay to a 747.

Also to take note of is "damping" and "rebound" factors.

  • @pilotanthony also the more wheels you have the more evenly spread out the weight of the aircraft causing a smoother touchdown

  • @lockstocknl in my opinion i think that the wheels of the A380 and 767 call for a more hard touchdown as the way the wheels are facing if you compare that with the A330/A340 the wheels are titled the opposite way and are alot, alot smoother take a look at 767 landing they appear very hard and i also have experienced this as i have flown on the 767-300 and -400! just my opinion, if the A380's gear was angled like the A330/A340 then i think it will be a much smoother touchdown

  • it may be that the very structure of the wheels means that landings will be inherently harder, I however don't think that is entirely the case, and in this case the hard landing was probably due to the pilots actions as udfbino stated.

  • @lockstocknl he may not have been on every landing, however he may be on to something... Have you ever noticed how landings of the A330 are relatively smooth?

Like the A330 the 747 has two pairs of main gear that tilt near 40 degrees, with the rear wheels lower than the forward wheels. On each landing, the rear portion of the bogie touches the surface first, allowing for a smoother weight transition. All the Landing gear on the A380, while stronger, tilt forewards, much like the 767.

  • BTW: you`re even more wrong, more wheels on the tarmac means a better spread of the weight.. So more wheels should reduce the shock on the tarmac and wheel struts

  • The number of wheels touching the ground has NOTHING to do with how hard a landing is. Its all a function of approach speed and vertical speed. The A380 has the lowest approach speed of all large jets thanks to its huge wing, also because of the grournd effect the vertical speed during the flare can be more easily controlled.

Just because you think you saw 20 videos of hard landing (show me!) and you heard it from a friend doesnt make it a fact. But hey, you`re 13 so do you dont know shit...

  • There are so many Airbus A380 landings I've seen. About 20 videos, and an experience from my friend, and they're all harder than 747. If you look closely, the main gear structure IS different from Boeing 747. When landing touchdown, A380 will touchdown with 8 wheels then followed with the others, and Boeing 747 is only 4. It means that the touchdown of A380 is usually 2 times harder than 747. Get it?
