My mother, "Poupee", an endearing nickname given to her by her French paternal grandmother, Elisa Coutin (the French word for "doll"), was an extraordinary woman and the most devoted of daughters, mothers, and grandmothers. She was a sport star in her teens, and a consummate professional throughout her adulthood. She lived a full life filled with great achievements and tragic disappointments, nonetheless, she overcame all obstacles with singular triumph.

She was born in Baracoa, Cuba in 1918. Moved to Havana, in 1930. Then to Ciego de Avila in 1950 and to the USA in 1960. After living Miami, Rome, NY., and Donelson, Tenn, whe moved permanently to New Orleans in 1964 and remained there until her death on May 16th, 1991 from the ravages of Chronic Leukemia. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about her, she was the most devoted of mothers, and grandmothers, she was intelligent and wise, and a moral pillar and example in my life. I thank God for having put her in my life and in my family's because she was illuminating in every way, so much so, that her memory is still with us all as if it was yesterday, and I think she lives in each and every person she loved. Every Mother's Day, every birthday, every anniversary, she is remembered for her great legacy with great honor and love. The world is a better place because she was here, and those in our family that survive her know the reasons why.

The Mexican song classic "Te Quiero Dijiste (Muñequita Linda)" was her favorite song and I used it to open the video. The song is known as "Magic Is The Moonlight" in English, not a literal translation.

  • Dear Sergio,

Don't know how I just found this wonderful tribute to your dear Mom but after seeing all your great music videos of lots of your favorite singers,I'm sure that this is your greatest video that you've ever done, and rightfully so!.

Your Mom must have been such a wonderful lady, and most certainly a very lovely one, too. This touches me deeply and makes me think of my own dear mother who passed away December 30,1999.

    Sincerely,your friend,Wes

  • @wes50smusic1 Dear Wes, Thank you for your kind words. Yes, this is my ultimate labor of love, and I am so proud of this effort, and if it evokes memories of mother's in an universal way, then all the better for it, those wonderful women who gave us life and taught us to be good people and love others, deserve our utmost respect and love, and even if only in memory they all live within our hearts. I am glad it did for you, my friend. God bless you!

  • Remembering today 20 years ago, when you left us, it was never the same again, but magically you live on inside each of us that knew you and loved you inspiring us every day of our lives to be better and that is your great legacy.

  • @elisa412 Actually Elisa, my great grandmother, was French, although her first name was not so. Her name was Elisa Coutin and she married a Spaniard from Barcelona and that is how she ended up in Cuba. Her grandchildren called her "Mamelisa". Thank you for subscribing and "favoriting" (a new word) my video. The moniker "boopkid" is self made, as a child in Cuba I watched Betty Boop cartoons on TV, and I loved them, and Betty Boop is like an icon of those years and my childhood.

  • @elisa412 You know, I cannot remember as I am subscribed to you..so perhaps that is why and when you download something new..I get an email ( smiles )

Nice to know your grandmother's name was Elisa as it is not common. I believe it is Spanish ( spelled with an (s ) and English if it is spelled with a (z) I am Scot...!

I love the nickname...and yours as well ( Betty Boop ) Kid *chuckle* I made your Mom's video one of my favorites..I see we love music ( passion for me ) Have a gentle evening

  • @elisa412 Thank you for your lovely words and post. What amazes me is that my great grandmother's name was Elisa, and you are the first post on this unlisted video and you bear that same name.. It was my grandmother Elisa that gave my mother her nickname, Poupee. How seredipitous is that? I am curious... how did you stumble onto the video given it is unlisted?
