I have decided to put my whole music collection on Youtube. I do not own the rights to any of the songs.
#58 Girls Can Tell by The Crystals
Album: The Best Of The Crystals
Year: 1992
Written By: Jeff Barry/Ellie Greenwich/Phil Spector
Lyrics:
Girls can tell if boys are true
By the things they say and do
And I can tell that you'll be true to me
Don't you know it means so much
When I feel your tender touch
When you say that I look real fine
When you put your hand in mine
We will always be together
Stay in love forever
Girls can tell
Girls can tell if things are right
When they kiss a boy goodnight
And I can tell that you're just right for me
When it's time for you to go
Gee, I'll always miss you so
I gotta kiss you one more time
I gotta hear you say you're mine
We will always be together
Stay in love forever
Girls can tell
Every day I'll love you more
Than I did the day before
Listen, I will make you see
Just how much you mean to me
Every time I look at you
I just don't know what to do
And I always wanna hold you tight
I wanna see you every night
'Cause the stars that shine above me
I can say you love me
Girls can tell

Whether it's the version with Lala on lead or Ronnie, it doesn't really matter. The real star of this tour-de-force is Hal Blaine, who's frenetic drumming really makes the whole thing move. Jack Nitzsche's string arrangement is also some of his finest work.

I like the Ronettes version better :) I like both groups but I think the way Ronnie sings this song fits to the music better :) If that makes sense :S lol

Great track.Dixie Cups and Ronettes are also very good.On this Crystal's track the portion between 1.32seconds and 1.41seconds also is heard on their monumental "I Wonder".

I prefer La La's lead over Ronnie's.

I think this is one of the most intense pieces of music ever recorded. I prefer the Crystals' version to the Ronnettes--LaLa Brooks' vocals may not be as relaxed as Ronnie's, but that's because she's singing as if her heart is going to explode.

Yes my P.Spector Wall of Sound Rare Masters LP (import) credits this to the Crystals but with the unmistakable sound of Ronnie's lead vocal. Ronnie performed this last night at an absolutely awesome Xmas show in downtown Mpls.
BTW, the trio in blue in the montage is in fact the Ronettes.

Great to finally hear the real Crystals' version; have previously heard the version with Ronnie Bennett on lead (over same backing track) but credited to the "Crystals". La La Brooks' lead here is rather stiff-backed compared to Ronnie's more relaxed phrasing. All the same I think I like this version better. Thanks Very Much for posting!
