A 30W soldering iron was captured heating and cooling in the infrared spectrum. The video was actually based off of pictures, and not motion video. I used an old webcam with the IR filter removed and a visible light filter replacing it to only view the IR spectrum.

Of course, you see no light with your eyes, this is effectively radiant heat viewed with a 10 dollar webcam and captured with VLC Media Player. This process actually takes far longer than is portrayed here; the total time for this to happen is about 15 minutes. Of course, watching this for 15 minutes would bore you to tears, hence the "time lapse".

  • Yours is a 15 minute time lapse which is pretty cool, but very old heating technology, mine video and images are real time.
