My dad, Frankie Freed (Friedlander), managed this group. Too bad he didn't live long enough to see the internet embrace oldies. He'd be thrilled to know their songs are still being played.
I was about 15 years old ..lived on N. 5th st. and 3rd ave. While walking over to my friend Vinny's house one night, I had to go along Roseville Ave. past Megaro's funeral home. there were hundreds of teenagers all on the street and around the place. Pat Mazillo's wake. Lots of crying and teen angst.
I went to school with them (Bloomfield Tech) I remember them singing at Thursday's assembly. I met Carl Anderson in the 80's when he was collecting tolls on the GSP Exit 93. He was blasting doo wops. Next day I brought my "I'm Sold" 45 with me and he autographed it. Ha. It is im my jukebox today. I used to catch the subway from Newark through the park and the bus up Franklin Ave to get to school.
We were all kids together in NJ. Sorry, I made a typo on Rip's last name, it should read Wagner. Bob's last name is Black, it had slipped my mind for the moment.
