Since 2003, the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy has worked to transform Detroit's international riverfront - the face of the city - into a beautiful, exciting, safe, accessible, world-class gathering place for all. See the Conservancy's success and learn how you can play a part in the transformation. Visit DetroitRiverfront.org for more information.
I can remember when the Riverwalk area was nothing but abandoned warehouses. Now its scenic and nice. The city has done a great job building it all up. A lot of the interior of the downtown area is pretty cool to explore. Its a curious mixture of modern yet plenty of old buildings with classic Deco architecture. You can ride the People Mover or drive around. Best thing is plenty of parking unlike downtown Royal Oak.

Detroits Riverfront is gorgeous as well as safe. The walk has no incidences of violence or crime since it has been opened. Future development will include retail, residential space, and more restaurants.

You can take a trillion dollars in subsidies and pave the streets with gold but it isn't worth anything when you have to be around bad people.
