they DID run right over the whale, it WAS sitting there motionless, im sure you dont actually think whales swim sideways.

@wizzardoffuzz it's not a boat hook. It's a gaff. Gaffs are used to stab fish when they are close to the boat so you can bring them onto the boat and club them.

@rhluce22 yeah and i bet thats exactly what they were thinking when they decided to ram the whale. thats why they are talking about jumping on it and one of them has a boat hook in his hand.

@dwmille3 It might be quiet late to write something to this post, but i'll still do it. Stopping on the water with a boat is not like stopping with a car and hitting the break, right? So you might have stopped before you "drove" over the whale, but it was still the momentum of your boat , even without the engine running, that caused you to to drive over the whale. He might have moved but i think (and it looks like it in this video) that you ran him over.

It wasn't moving at all when you went over it, it wusn't even facing you, and they don't swim backwards. Not only you risked the whale's life, you also risked yours as they can become aggressive. you shouldn't provoke sperm whales like that. They have been known to sink large wooden vessels and damage metal ones with its battering ram. They can actually get pretty aggressive.
It could ram your boat and kill all of you.

This is my video, and I was the one who filmed this from the boat. We went towards the whale and then stopped. The whale came towards us and hit the boat. I'm still trying to figure out how the whale's actions constitutes as us breaking the law. Whoever wrote about calling a whale an animal is correct. An animal can be a mammel.
