This is a pass of the International Space Station over my front yard on the 30th of October. At the time, the Space Shuttle Discovery was docked to the station. The pass had a maximum altitude of about 50 degrees.

This was taken using a 10" F5 Newtonian telescope on a simple Dobsonian base. A Panasonic MiniDV video camera was attached to a 26mm eyepiece and aligned with the finderscope. I tracked the station by hand by watching through the finderscope and making sure to keep it centred in the crosshairs.

Enjoy! :)

  • Next time use a motorized tracking mount. This shaky movement is just like that of Cloverfield.

  • @yourjudgeandjury I will if you'd be willing to buy one for me. ;)

  • Why does it moves so much ?, It seems you were not using some telescope base .. is it true ?

  • @OneWorld4us It moves so much because i was hand tracking the station as it moved across the sky. I did have the scope on a mount, but it wasnt motorised, so I had to manually do the tracking.

  • can you help me to get started in ISS tracking

i got the stuff...any suggestions would help...

  • Sure! What sorta info are you after?
