Terry's Video Podcast - This Frozen Plot - February 2012

This month's Tales from Terry's Allotment comes to you from the still-frozen Rhondda Valley that we've come to know so well and Terry and Richard will be discussing a host of garden topics, including Richard's plans for wildlife sanctuaries on the allotment!

First on the list, however, are the greens, which have been put back in their place by the recent cold snap after shooting up so cockily over the warm winter! It seems that Terry is really looking forward to getting the first crop of them off the plot to bring in the new gardening year. Sadly, the cold does not seem to have slowed down the slugs even one little bit. Terry is keen to discuss his elephant garlic. What's the best way to cook it? What should you feed it on? It's all in there! Even an interesting explanation as to why a 'healthy' and early explosion of greenery can be catastrophic for some plants.

Following this, terry and Richard examine the effect of such a cold snap on the soil. It becomes increasingly plain that making sure you get your winter digging done really pays dividends when the weather turns like it has! Terry's soil is a wonderful site (or will be when it defrosts!)

Richard's contribution this month comes in the form of a hanging bird rest for Terry's mate, the robin. By winding willow withies together with straw and sheep wool, the pair create a rather upmarket pad for the little birds!

So relax and enjoy watching this months instalment of Tales from Terry's Allotment, and be thankful that it's started to warm up now!

Took over my allotment in Feb and have never grown anything before so finding your video full of practical advice from 'ordinary' gardeners was fantastic. You two are very funny together. Off to look for some more of your uploads :) thanks!
