@therandomcat By the way, we most certainly approve of fasting on this day. And after the names of such authorities on religion have been mentioned, how can u still doubt in this? R u telling me that the so-called "scholars" of today who ban milad are more praiseworthy and know the religion better than Hafiz Ibn Kathir (ra) and the rest of the scholars whose names i have briefly mentioned?

@therandomcat Ibn Taymiyyah did more than approve, he actually said that it was a beneficial action if performed in accordance to the sunnah in his Iqtidatus siratul mustaqeem. I know what Ibn taymiyyah said and although the ahlus sunnah do not follow him to a great extent in reality due to his somewhat extreme and divergent views from the rest of the great Ulama, his opinion here is for those who claim to be his followers (eg wahabis, salafis etc).

@therandomcat What about the introduction of madrasahs and universities. these arn't electrical advancements. What about the compilation of the quran into one entire book? Not scientific advancement. What about the performing of the taraweeh every year in jama'ah in the mosque? Not a scientific advancement. these and so many other things are innovations in matters of the deen but r perfectly halal. Only 1 who has no true love for rasool(SAW) tries to prove that the mawlid is haram (NA).

@therandomcat if you wish to learn more about it, then go and visit Brick Lane Mosque and u will find that the Imams there will be more than happy to explain things to u with every respect and dignity. Then u can make an informed decision and once you see all the evidence in front of u, u will inshallah most definitely see the truth and accept that this was the practice of the salaf us saliheen.

@EshqrRasool anyway, i appreciate the response, i want to learn more about this business but youtube is hardly a place to do it. its more a place of people matching egos than seeking knowledge. and apparently i'm a wahabi / salafi / jamaati for asking questions. on to the books!!
fi'amanAllah

@EshqeRasool to try and respond to all that you said in one go, yes I've heard this argument before but moving forward in science and technology as we've been commanded to do is on a different spectrum to practises that are not recorded as sunnah. if you base practise on Rasool(SAW) fasting on the day he was born, shouldn't you then also fast on the day he was born? do as he did? also, i know of ibn Taymiyah's opinions on mawlid and he did not exactly 'approve it.'

@theranHere is only a small list of the greatSalaf who r imams of the ummah and huffaz of the hadith of Huzoor(SAW) who have supported mawlid in written form: Imam Suyuti,Ibn Rajab Hanbali,Imam Ibn AlJawzi,Imam Abu Shama(ImamNawawi'sSheikh),Imam AlQastalani,ImamSakhawi,ImamDa
yba'i,Mufti of Makka Ahmad ibnZayniDahlan,ImamSubki,ImamS hawkani,HafizIbnHajarAsqalani, IbnHajarHaytami(ra)and manymore.If u have any knowledge,then these names should astound u.Even IbnTaymiyyah approved of it! -
@therandomcat Thousands amongst the best of the best have compiled kitabs supporting this gathering and the majority of muslims have been practising this for many centuries. Only those who truly love the prophet SAW) accept this. Hafiz (of hadith) Ibn Kathir (ra) who has compiled the greatest tafseer on the Quran has written a book on the mawlid and has brought numerous proofs regarding it..............

@therandomcat Rasool(SAW) himself celebrated his birth by fasting on the day he was born as is found in hadiths so actual concept comes from prophet himself.Activities within these mahfils such as glorifying Allah(SWA),reciting poetry in the praise of the prophet(SAW),sending our salutations unto him etc were all practised by the sahabah and the pious predecessors.Imam-e-Azam himself has written many poems praising the prophet (SAW) with such terms that some nowadays will say its shirk!(NA)
Good news brothers. There may be another conference similar to this this year (2012), Inshallah. Keep your eyes and ears open!!! I will inform you as soon as I get a confirmation.
