Sri Lankan expatriates in Italy handed over an appeal to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, Wednesday at the Vatican City expressing gratitudes for the return of the venerated Statue of Our Lady of Madhu to the Madhu Church and urged to prohibit the LTTE terrorists from using places of workship to achieve their political and military objectives.

The rally was organized by the Sri Lankan expatriate community totaling more than 80,000 in Italy who are predominantly of Catholic faith.

"The Church of Madhu and its surrounding area had been used by the LTTE terrorists to advance in its guerilla warfare. The Church had been sown with mines, laid with pressure bombs and constructed bunkers, to advance in the LTTE guerilla warfare. Fortunately, the Government of Sri Lanka and its Defense Forces have removed all of these war preparations made by the LTTE, and the Church of Madhu has been completely renovated.
