My grandparents ran a donut & hot dog stand on the outskirts of Apache Junction. Years earlier they had run a cafe in Tempe before moving to Apache Junction, then finally settling in Apple Valley, CA. When I was ten years old or so, I spent an entire summer there "working" in the diner and hanging out with the kid next door. My song, "Michael," though it distorts the details and expands time, is really about that summer and that friendship. Our lives have had very interesting intersections.
I find myself singing this a lot. I love the desert. Love this song....xo Paula
