A couple of years ago I was upset by a BYU policy that checked out racquetball racquets to women, but not to men.

I wrote a letter to the editor of the campus newspaper, and the local news station saw it and picked up the story. Eventually BYU did talk to me, and the policy has since been changed.

I found the tape I made of the news broadcast the other day and finally digitized it.

  • Yeah, they did finally change it so now my (male) friends can easily check out racquets when we play (I still just play with my own that I bought).

  • I can't imagine the fallout if the rackets would have only been given to men.

  • This only proves that BYU sucks, and the U of U is better

  • My Old College has AWESOME racquets...when I say awesome, I mean $50 racquets..which for beginners, is overkill. Can you list the exact racquets the institute uses? Id be happy to know. The fix is that they are using too high quality equipment. (If they are). There is no reason why beginners, (Including most people who just want a "cardio workout" should be using a racquet over $30. The problem lies within the budget system.

  • i know guys break them... I am currently attending BYU-Idaho, and the racquets that they are providing are pretty decent, i mean, they're not the 100$ racquets, but they aint no piece of crap that they sell at wal-mart... btw, if you didn't know, BYU isn't a club, its a school, they have no relationships with clubs in that sense... and yes, i have been to clubs that do have those cruddy wal-mart ones...

  • Prove it. I have been to 25+ clubs because of my sponsorship and I have not seen much quality equipment as most of it is either A)Over 8 years old or B)Walmart specials. You can get good beginner racquets at Walmart/Target for $14.99 that will be fine before you start to get serious. Yes, I have teached classes and demos and I will tell you that I have never had a female break a racquet, just males and all the time. It happens with very strong racquets. Beginning males break racquets more.

  • 10$ hardly... i don't know what kind of crap club you go to, but the BYU schools take pride in their higher quality equipment, it'd be atleast 60$...

  • Big deal you guys...Racquets are only $10.00 at Wal-mart. They are the same quality as the ones that any club will rent you out. I get mine for free because of sponsorship...but come on..$10?

  • Funny. Did it ever change?
