The Technician - A One Act Play

The Technician is a 20 minute original play written and directed by James Hamer-Morton and starring himself, Emma Kendrick and Kate Bishop. Inspired by Luigi Pirandello and his 'Six Characters in Search of an Author', The Technician focusses on characters broken out of their 'scene' by a stage lighting change instigated by the mysterious technician running the show.

As they realise that they are characters, and not actors, they must come to terms with their own meaning, and find themselves unable to stop the Technician's theatrical conventions controlling them.

Shot as the final part of a university drama course, I apologise for the poor sound quality, but wanted to have the project online for posterity.

Also of note is the soundscape throughout the whole project. To achieve this, we rehearsed it until we were happy with the timing and performance, filmed it (not this take) and proceeded to create a music track almost as a film score over the top. This was then played back live, and through rehearsal we could time ourselves to the piece and immerse the audience better in the whole event.

This is amazing! I love the way you incorporated music into every scence. The lack of props and confined stage add so much to the overall picture, it just makes you think that they truly are stuck in that one scene. This is a fabulous play, I really wish we could perform something like this at our school, we're currently working on the one act "Games" and it's no where near as amazing as this. Great job!
