UCSB Men's Soccer - Silva punched in face

I go to Cal Poly and was hoping you guys would go far. Frankly, the NCAA doesn't take our conference seriously. I was hoping you'd do some damage and show them what soccer in the Big West is like. But it seems as though you've been cheated from a win here. The NCAA has ignored our conference this year. Irvine was ranked in the top 15 for a majority of the season, and Cal Poly had the 15th toughest schedule with 7 games against ranked opponents and maintained a winning record, yet no cup bid...

To all the Gauchos. Suck it up and be a man about it.

Wtf that isn't a punch...? Looks like he got pissed at the studs-up tackle and overreacted, pushing the guy. I'd say yellow for each, maybe red for the tackle if you're going strictly by the rules.

worst call in the history of college soccer

@cangelkiller he isn't from the bay area. he's from the valley

that game was rigged and thats all i have to say about that! we all know ucsb should of won that game..maybe next time they should pick a ref thats not from the bay area...

@BigMikeUCSB i saw it too, and he picked up the ball and threw it at the ref. i know what i saw.

@CoffeeGirl45 at a high level of play, the excuse is that the sliding player gets all-ball; at NCAA level, I think you have it partly right, referees get involved there, but never is that a red, my call to be safe that early in the game, and assuming Carrasco of Cal was ticked about it--Yellow to Silva........ Again due to stage of game and bigness of game, yellow to Carrasco for retaliation, "Let them play!!!!!!!" to quote one of the "Bad News Bears" movies (Astrodome one?):)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!bwrc
While ucsb can bitchnmoan about the ref, that certainly doesn't justify beating up the ref post-match. Everyone heard the ringleader of sb's fans/rally committee yelling (before this play) about how he was going to "murder [the referee] and [his] entire family" due to a previous call.
&Where's the REST of the play (or at least the 2-footed-studs-up tackle that everyone (referees/press/CAL fans) besides SB fans witnessed)--before the supposed punch? Do you only conveniently have 3sec of footage?

@summerj0711 Look in the description for the full video. It was a sweep tackle so studs never went into Carrasco. And no one beat up the ref after the game. There was anger and words exchanged but there were no fists thrown like some UCB fans like to say there were. As far as the "murder the family" comment, that is an ongoing comment used all season that really means nothing...just something said so don't get your panties in a twist about it.

There is no excuse for a two footed studs up tackle. Period. There is no excuse for assulting an official. Ever. Why has nobody addressed this on this site?

@CoffeeGirl45 The assault that you speak of didn't happen the way you make it seem. There were no fists thrown at the ref or anything. A goalie glove was thrown and that was it. The picture of a player that looks like he's pushing him in the chest is a "convenient" photo where the ref walked into him. There has been no video released of the after game event, only UCB fans/staff/etc saying what happened. And that is not a 2 footed studs up tackle, it's a sweep tackle.

@BigMikeUCSB a soccer ball was thrown at the referee too.

@uram119 Actually no. The soccer ball was kicked hard towards the wall. It missed the ref by atleast 20 feet. I was literally right across the field in the stands watching everything happen in the "melee". The only pushing that happened was when the Student event staff tried to restrain the players. A GK glove the Hayden threw off after the goal was picked up and thrown at the ref, but that was it.
