NOTE: Originally posted March 15, 2008. I am re-uploading the older episodes of the Multimedia Chronicles to give them all proper HD upgrades in quality.

Part 2 of the seventh in a series of rants by yours truly all about the wonderful world of Hi-Definition.

Price. Yes, HD-DVD players were cheaper than Blu-Ray players, but was that a GOOD thing? I say no. Find out why...

Blu-Ray kicked HD-DVDs ass in weekly sales from Feb 2007 until the end of the format war. Don't believe me? Let's look at the charts! And I'll even throw in a few notable events from the timeline so you know what was happening when those charts originally came out...

HD-DVD was pretty much DOOMED from the start. The evidence was there for anyone who cared to LOOK at it. So why the heck did so many people think it was going to win? Based on WHAT, exactly? We'll probably never know...

  • It just starts out "PRICE." That's like IShatOnU's review of District 9. The rest of the rant, MUCH MORE DETAIL!

  • @bheemabachus Um...okay. This video was also shot and originally posted over a year before District 9 even came out.

  • ZARANYZERAK, thank you for giving a simple look at a complex business world. Would you ever do a dare if another format comes and you pay the new format player at its most expensive?

  • Word around the campfire these days is that blu-ray players will be $99 USD.

  • I think a big reason blu-ray won was because of the PS3 having a built in player.

  • It almost remembers you of Sega's 32x!

It didn't sell well so it became cheaper and cheaper and.. cheaper and.. it still didn't sell that good.

Ah Strange times but they always repeat!

  • @Zaranyzerak I know. ISOU's review of D9 was only a second. That's just what it reminded me of, and that made me laugh.

  • @bestmoviesever1 And what movie might that have been? If it was some fly by night Pilates exercise video, that doesn't count. Not to mention that was almost a YEAR ago. Most people don't even have or use a VHS player any more. For all intents and purposes, the format is dead and has been for a VERY long time.

  • @bestmoviesever1 Oh really? When was the last time a new release movie was put out on VHS?
