Photographed near Totota, Liberia, West Africa in 1968. This was orginally taken on Super 8 film. It was in an enclosure on President Tubman's private country estate and the only pygmy hippo in captivity in Liberia at the time. I was let into the fenced acerage and sat by the edge of the pond until this pygmy hippo began to approach me, when I left. I was conducting a field survey on the pygmy hippo for the World Wildlife Fund at the time.
