  • Thank you to whoever posted this clip. It's neat hearing Victor speak his native language. Thankfully, I'd seen most of these routines in English, so I could follow for the most part. By the way, how old was he here? 90?? That's how he looks to me.

  • Hi @Rebekah88keys

    Thanks for commenting this.

It's number 13 in a playlist "Victor Borge & Co"

I am the one who uploaded these 2 parts of several clips.

Victor Borge was born in 1909 so in 1996 he would have been 87.

  • so weird. at the end, everyone is clapping in weird rhythmic unison. unusual.

  • Hi Eschelar

In Denmark - when the audience is very exited and want to express its gratitude towards the artist, it is common that some groups in the audience starts this destinct, slower, rhytmic and harder (higher) clapping.

Within seconds - the hardest clapping group is followed by all other.

Sometimes it leads to extra performance by the artist.

Watch the clip here, you will see a result of this clap. Starts with this rhytmic clapping (from previous performance.)

  • has to do with the recording technology. the clap waves are cancelling out eachother.

  • No Legatosans.

This clapping is the way the Danish audiences honour the artist by clapping harder and slower.

Has nothing to do with recording technology....I should know. I am Danish.

  • @mugge62 Thanks for the info! :)

  • @HeckoX We do it in Finland also

  • I remember seeing this show on TV as a kid. Even now, years later, I'm still mesmerized. He was a true genius.

It has little to do with being Danish or not; a slightly slower, louder applause is a common applause when waiting for something, e.g. an encore or for the next artist to go on stage. It's this way in several countries in the world, not just Denmark. The slow handclap just means "we're waiting [for something]"; the faster applause that often precedes it is the one that expresses enjoyment.

  • I wish I could understand what he's saying. Might it be possible for someone to subtitle this?

  • Hilarious in any language
