My dad recorded this loose, 'freegrass' romp through "Gone Away" in my living room on Sunday, February 20th, 2011. It was a week to the day after the birth and brief life of my son, Joseph Phoenix Crockett, and had I invited three of my favorite acoustic musicians over for a jam session. It was something I needed. There's nothing to me like music to lighten my burdens and close the distance I feel between my world and I.

My life feels synchronistic or else it feels off. No sooner had Jay and Nicos arrived when, of course, Jim McKeon and Tyler Smith - two musical 'brothers from another mother' who I play with in my electric band - arrive unnanounced, checking in to see how I was doing. Right THEN?? They're sitting and talking in the background, making my wife laugh with their outrageousness. I am comforted by the experience of being a part of something larger than me.
