The Other Side of Electronic Music

A short guide to the alternative side of electronic music. There are many, many, many genres and subgenres in electronic music that a lot of people don't know about (most of them are heavy commercial junk consumers). The video gives information about various genres and a little bit history is also included. Genres are not in the chronological order(only some of them are). And I know that I have left out a lot of genres but maybe I'll make another video.

Same thing with ""Techno"". I dont understand why everyone calls some artists techno when they sound nothing like techno, for example, the chemical brothers, sounds absolutely nothing like techno. Aphex Twin is always called techno music by the mainstream uninformed crowd, but I always describe Aphex Twin as purely experimental/ambient electronic music.

Techno is probably most confusing genre name ever for the uninformed crowd. Everything electronic is techno to them. But actually in my country, Estonia, people call everything trance (that's because they haven't really heard of techno). For example, I was in a party, a drum & bass tune was playing and then a girl came to me and said that turn that TRANCE (?!) off...lol.

I've always been very biased towards the genre name "Industrial". Personally, I think its a very stupid and confusing genre name. People tend to call everything "industrial" music. Wumpscut, VNV nation, Hocico, Suicide Commando, etc. I just simply call it electronic music.

Thank you. I've been trying to find new music and genres. I like most of what I heard, but I think my favorites are Original Industrial and Hardstyle Trance. Any artist suggestions?

Not quite sure what you mean by original industrial but if you mean the older 70s, 80s stuff then you can check out major bands like Throbbing Gristle and Laibach. As for hardstyle I suggest you artists like DJ Zany, Lady Dana, Deepack, DJ Luna etc and also check out Yoji Biomehanika's older stuff...it's hard dance but some of his songs like "X-Bass" are quite hardstylish.

the most famous genres are trance, house, techno, hip hop, electro funk and hardcore. your guide to electronic music is crap. techno derived from mainly house and electro funk. house derived from electro funk and disco, trance derived from house, techno, ambient and industrial, hip hop derived from funk, disco, rhythm and blues, dub and reggae. electro funk derived from hip hop, funk and synthpop
