  • You could have used the same setup with a straight bit w/ bearing. Just slide the fence over until your test piece bumped the bit and eliminate the trial and error.

  • I think that any straight bit with ball bearing on the end is the best way

  • You can use a flush trim bit on the edge if you clamp a thicker piece of wood to the other side of your work piece; that will give the router plenty of support to make the cut accurately and cleanly.

  • Your technique is not advisable, its not accurate and require trial and error which consume a lot of time, and might even damage the material. A flush trimmer is still the best tool for trimming edge band.
