http://ow.ly/2gtL4 It is generally accepted that the American engineer Jennings Cox first invented the daiquiri, working near Daiquiri in Cuba. It is believed that in 1896 when entertaining some VIPs, Cox ran out of his gin supply so offered his guests a local mixture of rum and lemon juice and added granulated sugar as the drink was too harsh. This simple classic was made famous in the 1950s by President John F. Kennedy who proclaimed it to be his favorite cocktail.

Classic Daiquiri
The daiquiri is the perfect rum-savouring cocktail as the sugar and lime take the harsh edge off the rum and enhance the flavour, bringing the caramels and spices to the forefront. Here is a modern version of the classic, where lime is commonly used in place of lemon, and sugar syrup in place of granulated sugar.

Glass: 10 oz rocks or 5 oz Martini
Method: shake & fine strain
50ml 10 Cane Rum
12.5ml lime juice
1 barspoon of sugar syrup

Put all the ingredients into a mixing glass and fill with ice. Cap with a Boston shaker and shake vigorously until the shaker freezes on the outside. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass or fine strain into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.

  • Most cocktails, the classics anyway, contain Lime or Lemon juice. You only double strain if its served straight up, usually in a martini glass (i can't think of any exceptions served in ohter glasses). Double straining removes all the seeds, smaller pieces of fruit and shards of ice which slip through a hawthorne strainer so the drink looks as cloudless and crisp as possible. Try making two Daiquiris, single strain one and double strain the other and you will see the difference in appearence.

  • Not as such, this is said to be JFK's favourite drink so not really that girly! Daiquiris also use fresh lime, unlike its colonial sister the sour which uses lemon. Some people consider it to be girly, but the drink consists mostly of rum so it depends on how girly the girl is!

  • You'll need a lime wedge on that drink with only the juice of two in it.

  • @crewe99 I guess... well has a pro, you've to be sure what are you doing, shake again probably would ruin the cocktail, cause of the ice, well thats my opinion...

  • @kaschax yes. you cant serve shit to people. and if you cant do a balance daiquiri......... well... change work :)

  • @crewe99 Yea I was wondering that? What if you mess up the balance, what do you do? Chuck it out and start again?

  • When he says, "quick taste, to check the balance" if its not right does he just add the extra amount of whatever is missing, shake and taste again?

  • hes a pimp

  • a quarter of a lime? i thought it was equal to 25ml in the recipe

  • Yummy! Daiquri's are good!

  • because he's only using a 5oz martini glass

  • I think i prefer frozen flavoured daquiris
