F.E.A.R. running on the top GeForce FX card. Runs terrible for the most part, but FRAPS makes it look slightly slower than it actually is.

  • I remember this card was an absolute beast for its time. I suspect the framerate is taking more of a hit from the game forcing shader model 3.0 effects, rather than from lacking the horsepower.

  • @AlphaGodDamn4 It uses DX9 pixel shader 2.0, which the FX series is very poor at. But I'm not sure why the "force DirectX 8 shaders" option didn't help more. To be fair this game also punished the Radeon 9700/9800.

  • I played through F.E.A.R. twice on a 128 MB 5900XT with an Athlon XP 2400+ at 800x600, with mostly medium detail settings. In addition to setting DirectX 8 shaders, try reducing the lighting and shadow detail, turning off volumetric lights (which EAT performance), and setting most other details to medium or low. Extraction Point was *MURDER* on less than a 6600GT, but Perseus Mandate ran well.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • That game was a beast. I remember I had to play it at 640x480 and Low Settings to get acceptable framerates on my then machine. It had amazing graphics for its time though!
