Thanks I like this video. I have a canon xsi that I want to turn into a ir. They asked what lens I should use to have calibrated. I am new to photography, so are there any suggestions on which lens I should get. I love taking landscapes or better said city scape (NYC) pics by the water. Thanks

Haha, you can hear how stoked he gets when he sees the shot! Pretty picture, good work.

how it looks when taking a infrared photo at night ?

Cokin makes a superb infrared filter. I use it mounted on their P mount. I also have their circular polarizer and a couple neutral density gradiants.

Its actually really neat. Still the same as in the day time, the foliage is white and stands out much more than normal. Definitely worth looking at.

Hi Socal75,
If you are shooting on a 35mm camera the only other thing you'd need is infrared film. However, with a digital camera, you actually have to modify the body by removing the visible light spectrum inhibitor. (sadly, you actually have to take the camera apart. its a permanent change) Call me 818-693-9114 and I'll help you out with what I know. (I'm downtown) Thanks, D

Hey thanks for posting this, Donald. I recently a purchased a Hoya R72 Filter for my Canon Powershot S3-IS, but don't really know what to do next. Can you recommend any decent photography classes in the Los Angeles area that would teach this? I live in Pasadena and work in Hollywood. Thanks!

Good Point wxb200. For all digital cameras, you need to remover the inhibitor filter that limits the camera to only seeing the visible spectrum. (it would cover your ccd). After that you replace the filter with an infrared filter to limit the camera new range just to the infrared spectrum. Once converted, the camera can only shoot infrared. I don't recommend doing it yourself, I had mine done by a company called lifepixel.
