This is how we temper (heat) our domestic hot water before it goes to our boiler. For more information look at this thread on NEPA Crossroads.com http://nepacrossroads.com/about13500.html

  • Do you have a thermostat to control the circulator pump? I'm looking for one to finish my system but I'm having a hard time finding the right solution. What I'd like to do is very simple in concept... turn the pump on when the fire is hot, and off when its cold ;) I'm thinking I need a stat with a sending unit and a relay... but not sure where to find the right stat. Any suggestions?

No I did not use a thermostat on the pump. The stove is always hotter then the water temperature. You can always add one later.

  • I'd be concerned about the pipe insulation that close to the stove, watch that it doesnt melt....

  • @tom69z28 No, its rated for over 750F

  • hey stu whats that machine to the left?

  • @bug512 I ended up getting a temp controller with a remote sending unit. Works well! My stove eats wood like crazy so it does go cold sometimes. Thanks for responding though nice set up!

  • @bug512 Dear Bug., Thanks for your info.

  • @pianodannmarr Only by the stove, I have electric hooked up but not tuned on.

  • @pianodannmarr In the summer I keep it flooded, the warm temperatures of my basement bring up the water temperatures in the 70's

  • @vicarofrevelwood Thanks, I was thinking of thermosyphon but the pump was in stock !!

  • @bigguy1957thb No, I think I still could add one more piece of fin tube and not have a problem.
