GoPro HD HERO vs ContourHD1080p, part 1 (720p60)

Comparing the GoPro HD HERO and the ContourHD1080p helmet cams. Part 2 (1080p30) available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGRnJK36wSQ

The original video was shot and edited at 1280x720 at 59.94fps. Naturally, YouTube will reduce this down to 30fps.

Both were mounted the same way, right next to each other, so the images could be compared. The FOV of both cameras is different (and it's very hard to orient both of them the same way since there is no viewfinder), so the images don't match up, but I did the best I could.

The video itself isn't very interesting (just a run of the local streets!), the point is to show how both cameras perform side-by-side. It is possible that the ContourHD I have access to may be defective as it shows massive blur on the left side...

for graphic quality, they are both the same, the go pro is just brighter. for sound the go pro is better. but when you want to mount it on to your head, the contour hd is better,

Gopro's are best if you're looking for a helmet cam or something to mount on your car/bike/whatever.

Contour's are better with less wind, and closer objects. more like normal non-action video.

@AdamSavage88 Agreed, the ContourHD looks a lot less goofy when you mounted to a helmet. There is a waterproof case available for the Contour (sold separately) which I presume would do a similar job of cutting down wind noise.

The GoPro HD Hero has been price-dropped by $100 to make way for the latest version of the GoPro: The HERO2. IMO, the HERO2 is a bit better, but the HERO1 is a hundred bucks cheaper.

Picture quality is way better on the Go Pro for sure. I've wanted a Contour but I think I'm sold on the Pro now.
