Mogadishu's only hospital has been pushed to breaking point after months of bombings and street battles have left thousands wounded in the Somali capital.

There is already a new government, the Transitional Federal Government. It allied itself with the Islamic Courts Union and the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia, a collection of Islamist groups, by being an Islamic government. It is gaining control and establishing law and order, and planning elections. But sharia law will be the law of the land.

I see your point, but I didn't mean to say that people should pick either democracy or education. For all I care, both education and a estable governmental system are paramount in order to achieve a proper social development, but I think that education is being underestimated while democracy has been getting too much attention lately.

no, you can't have education without money, you can't get the money without capitalism, and you can have (proper, fair, sustainable) capitalism without democracy, either way, you must start with democracy or capitalism, not education.

Maybe, but the fact is that every social group first has to cover most of their basic needs in order to begin building complex social structures such as a governmental model. We would be being very naive by thinking that democracy will bring peace, health and economic wealth in the short run just by itself when you have epidemic infections to take care of, mutilated people having a hard time forgiving the ones who did that to them, etcetera. I would bet for education first, rather than democracy

we can not help those people. it can not be done, they must decide they want democracy and then fight for it or there will be no hope there at all
