I want to make an umbrella with a pulley. When you push the pulley the umbrella opens and a note hangs from one of the strings saying happy birthday. Can you help me out in making it

it makes me mad not knowing how to make this....but i guess i cant blame myself,me being only 11.

I noticed that the top of the umbrella looks like it was open sunk. The tip if the closed umbrella does not look sharp. When you open the umbrella all the way how did you get the center of the square to stay in place on top of the handle?

How do you make the umbrella without an adhesive of any kind???
P.S. Since you're also into oragami, could you check out my Paper Crane folding video based on the story "Sadko and the Peace Cranes"? Any input you could give would be greatly appriciated. Thanks so much!!
This is a nice umbrella. You have inspired me to create my own version. My one and biggest question, did you sink the top part of the umbrella into the top of the handle? Please comment.

NO ! - The umbrella is held to the sticks by inserting segements of the folded over top (pleats) into the sticks - this is basically the same technique I used to make the box kite. You must fold a small layer under the middle diagonal of the stick and place a slip above and below where the paper is inserted. No glue ! ! ! I plan to make a video on my construction methods but I will probably sell it rather than distribute it freely.

This model is about a one hour fold (if you have good folding skills). Unfortunately, there is no way I can show how to fold this on Youtube. You can see the basic "Slip and Stock" construction on my websote "firstfold [dot] net) - click on the red "slip and sticl" button and view the pictures. Also see some of my other video's where I take apart the construction - this gives you an idea of the parts!
