Innocent; thirteen

"No, no, it goes like this," he instructed, sighing as his hands found the seatbelt and pulled it across my body, pushing it into the buckle until he heard the click.

"Not exactly rocket science, Princess," he teased, turning the keys to ignite the engine, pressing his foot down and revving it loudly as he eyed up the opposition.

"It's not my fault your fucking car is like a time machine from the sixties," I mumbled, sinking down in the seat. Every square inch of me was warning me this was a bad idea, but if Nick cared about me as much as he claims to, I'll be just fine.

"Hey, don't insult her, she's sensitive," he joked, rubbing the dashboard affectionately, while managing to maintain his gaze on the girl holding the white flag.

"Whatever, look, what I wanted to tell you is-"

My words were drowned out by the sounds of engines roaring and people screaming, and I slowly began to realize the race had started. Nick had a determined look on his face as he expertly drove towards the corner, and ultimately towards the finish line. I bit my lip as we skidded around the corner, grabbing onto his thigh in fear that we wouldn't stop.

His eyes flickered to me, surprise written all over his face before it was over taken with the same determination from earlier, and he began to speed off again, catching up with ease.

"Don't do that again," he warned, his tone slow and hard.

"Don't go all fucking bossy on me, I'm not your puppy!"

"Shhh, Princess, not now."

"I'm not your, Princess."

"Later, okay," he said, sneaking a glance at me once we were safely around the second to last bend.

"I can't believe you," I scoffed, shaking my head.

"Shh, I love you, but I'm concentrating."

"Fuck you, I don't love you."

"You don't what?" he asked, looking at me with his face contorted with pain and confusion, his focus completely abandoning the road ahead of us as we came to a corner.

"Nick, watch out!" I screeched, attempting to draw his attention to the wall we were about to hit if he didn't get his stupid ass foot on that accelerator. I inhaled sharply as his head spun around and he quickly turned the wheel, swerving left.

But it was too little too late.
