This is an old home movie I found at an estate sale. It shows cars, highways, streets and some buildings of the early 50's.
The plaque on the United Church says "Nothing in life has value except to do right, and to fear not".
The Tallapoosa, Georgia water tower is shown and also the Tallapoosa train depot with an old-fashioned passenger car passing by.
I think this was mainly filmed in Georgia but am not sure. Any information you could tell me about some of the places seen here would be great.

  • Chad, I work in Tallapoosa one day of the week, and this film most likely denotes a trip along US Highway 78, which was the main route between Birmingham, Al and Atlanta, GA before the interstate was constructed.

US 78 runs alongside the railroad tracks through downtown Tallapoosa.

I can tell you that little has changed since then..the highway is still 2-lane.I will see next week if the railroad station and water tower still exist.

  • Wow, thanks for that information! Do you know the places where some of the other buildings are, like the church or the one which looks like a courthouse with clock tower or the one with the Georgia Life sign on top? These may have all been in totally different towns though.

  • Interesting! Is the music part of the film?

  • No, it was a silent film, I just played a theatre organ record for an accompaniment.

  • This is great! God, I should've lived back then! Cruisin' around in a cool (old) car and checking out the American landscape of the time. I should've been born around 1900, fought two world wars, help rebuild the country in the '50s, and died peacefully in my sleep around 1989, before this country went completely to the dogs!

  • The car they are riding in is a 1955 Pontiac convertible. The car at the end is also an early 1950's Pontiac.

  • @ki4fkw well then you've probibly chased me around then haha!!! i live in tallapoosa to.

  • COOOL!. i live in Tallapoosa and the reason I moved here is because this town is very proud of its history.Nice to see it back in the day, really hasn't changed much and hope to keep it that way....

  • ARE YOU MAKING VIDEO'S

  • I am a Tallpoosa Police Officer. The railroad station is gone, but the water tower (standpipe) depicted is still there.

  • The music, Henry Mancini's "High Time," is definitely appropriate here!
