  • @4:35 Agree with the No Catch call. Possibly disagree with a Three Base Award as the touch must be deliberate. That said, this guy obviously knows his stuff. Assuming OBR here:

    7.05 Each runner including the batter-runner may, without liability to be put out,

    advance—

    (b) Three bases, if a fielder DELIBERATELY touches a fair ball with his cap, mask or any

    part of his uniform detached from its proper place on his person. The ball is in play

    and the batter may advance to home base at his peril;

  • Good interview but I find the number of games worked (over 700 a year) to be a little hard to beleive. I don't work a tenth of that in a year and I stay pretty busy. The busiest umpires I know might work 200 games in year. Even with travel baseball tournaments, that's 13 games per weekend, every weekend, for an entire year. That seems a little bit high even for a busy umpire.
