A friend borrowed me his bass to make this video in order to compare both smiths an neck thru and a bolt on. The first difference obviously is the construction of one single piece and two pieces, the second is the sound that is not the same and the third is the action, which is much better in the neck through.

  • they both dont sound good.

    you should give them away.

    ill send you my address...

  • You cannot compare two basses that have different woods materials and hardware. In order for you to fully test this out you have to have the exact same bass with the exact same woods from the exact same trees and using the same material and strings, electronics etc. The difference will only be notice that much more. Find a bass that is identical to each other but a neck through and bolt-on, then post. Your settings must be set the same way, amp the same, string the same. nice playing.

  • Seinfeld

  • neck thru has a way richer tone

  • for lighter cleaner tone neck through, for heavyer dirty tone bolt on

  • The wood of the two bodies look different. Perhaps that is also affecting the brightness/lack of brightness in the two tones?

  • bolt on
