Thanks, Brad. US gates are very expensive.
Maybe the much smaller gates in Japan are much less expensive, so they install them at most or all crossings. It appears that each track has it's own pair of red (o)-(o) lights. Why do they do that? Thank you,

Do any railroad crossings have only lights without gates?
I would like to see the complete cycle; Signals not activated. Then signals activated. Then signals finish and deactivate.

I don't remember any gateless crossings. When I was in Japan, we were primarily in Tokyo/Yokohama, Kyoto/nara and Hakone which is out in the sticks. On my digital camera, when I do video, the juice gets sucked out pretty quickly.
